The Simple Guide To Buying Computer Software

When your looking at buying computer software, be it the latest game or your financial planning software you will need to know a few things to avoid wasting time, effort, and most importantly.... Cash!

There are many different ways to get computer software but we will look at that in more detail shortly. First of all you need to choose the right product for you. Before you even begin your search have a think about exactly what you want your software to do. The reason for this is that with perhaps the exception of games, you will notice (if you do your research) that most software has many different versions from various companies. You may see at a Microsoft product for example that costs $100, and find that you can buy a lesser-known product that is almost the same for a fraction of the price. By knowing exactly what features you require and what compatibility is needed with other existing software on your PC you could save yourself a fortune. So the first rule is, don't pay for hundreds of features that you're never going to use.

Next, when buying computer software you need to look at the kind of after-sales support you are likely to require once you have bought your software. This will help you determine where you buy your product from and may also affect the cost. If you need the ongoing experience of a company that recognises your specific needs and offers telephone, email, or personal support then you should not simply grab it from you local computer store. Where possible, buy direct from the company, even if it is a little more expensive.

If on the other hand, you just want something you can whack in your computer and get going with, then you have many more options. Buying computer software to suit these needs is almost too easy and will probably come down to cost. There are a number of ways you can purchase in these circumstances. Some websites offer immediate downloads after payment. So you can buy it online and be given a download link where you receive your software without having to wait. The only disadvantage of buying in this way is that you don't have a back up on CD or DVD should you need to re-install it. If you are buying in this way, find out if the seller offers the option to download again should you require it.

If you want help with choosing then you may be better off going down to a computer store where you can get expert advice. It is likely that this will cost a little more, but they will help you find out not only what software you require, but whether your PC has the recommended specifications to run it.

Last but not least I have to mention eBay! You can find almost any software here, some of it is second-hand and therefore much cheaper than anywhere else, but you can find great deals on buying computer software from new also. The reason for this is that there are so many people selling that competition is stiff and this helps to drive down prices. I once bought some music creation software from eBay for $50 that would have cost me $600 had I gone to a shop. If you go down this route then read the advert very carefully. Make sure the software is genuine, and you are not buying an illegal copy. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
